Why do men visit prostitutes? Mainly to get laid. Nature designed humanity so that men have the drive to propigate the species, and women have the selectivity to improve the species. Men are MUCH more likely to have sex for sex's sake...women are more interested in relationships.

As for difference between "sex worker" and prostitute....not much. Some definitions of "sex worker" includes strippers, but that's about the only distinction.
